Festivals and vrats
Search upcoming Hindu festivals and fasting days, calculated for your city, up to a year ahead.
Dates are computed from the Tithi (and for Sankrantis, the Sun's sign change) at sunrise in New Delhi, Delhi. Regional traditions sometimes observe a festival on a different day; check with your family priest for rituals.
How festival dates are found
For each day we compute the Tithi, Nakshatra and the Sun's sign at local sunrise, then apply each festival's classical rule. Traditions vary by region and community; where a rule is contested, follow your family or temple calendar.
Questions
Why can a festival date differ between cities?
Most festivals are fixed by the Tithi at sunrise (or at another part of the day, such as midnight for Janmashtami). Sunrise differs by location, so a Tithi that begins just before sunrise in one city may begin just after it in another.
What is the difference between a festival and a vrat?
Here, a vrat is a recurring observance such as Ekadashi, Pradosh or Sankashti Chaturthi; festivals are annual celebrations like Diwali or Holi. Sankrantis mark the Sun entering a new sidereal sign.
