Divisional charts
A divisional chart (varga) divides each sign into equal parts and maps every part to a sign, producing a new chart that focuses on one area of life. They refine the D1 birth chart; they don't replace it.

The Navamsa (D9)
The Navamsa splits each 30° sign into nine parts of 3°20′, the same size as a Nakshatra pada. A planet's Navamsa sign is often used to judge its real strength: a planet in the same sign in D1 and D9 is called vargottama and is considered strong. The D9 is also the main chart for marriage and partnership.
Common vargas
| Chart | Name | Used for | Lagna changes every |
|---|---|---|---|
| D1 | Rashi | The birth chart itself: the whole life | ≈ 2 hours |
| D2 | Hora | Wealth and resources | ≈ 1 hour |
| D3 | Drekkana | Siblings, courage, initiative | ≈ 40 minutes |
| D9 | Navamsa | Planetary strength, dharma, marriage | ≈ 13 minutes |
| D10 | Dashamsa | Career and public standing | ≈ 12 minutes |
| D60 | Shashtiamsa | Past karma; very fine detail | ≈ 2 minutes |
Why birth time matters even more here
A varga's Lagna moves as many times faster as its divisions: the D9 Lagna changes about nine times as often as the D1 Lagna. A birth time rounded to the nearest half hour can easily give the wrong D9 or D10 Lagna, and the D60 is unreliable unless the time is known to the minute. Planets' varga signs move far more slowly and are usually stable. Check yours with the birth-time sensitivity checker.
