How it works
We calculate the Moon's sidereal longitude (Lahiri ayanamsa) for your birth moment and place, then divide the zodiac into 27 Nakshatras of 13°20′ and 108 padas of 3°20′, counted from 0° Aries.
Questions
What is a birth Nakshatra?
It is the lunar mansion, one of 27 divisions of 13°20′ in the sidereal zodiac, that the Moon occupied when you were born. It is also called the Janma Nakshatra or birth star.
Can I find my Nakshatra without a birth time?
Often, yes. The Moon spends about a day in each Nakshatra. We check where the Moon was at the start and end of your birth date and tell you whether it changed Nakshatra that day.
What is a pada?
Each Nakshatra is split into four padas of 3°20′. The pada refines the Nakshatra's meaning, maps to the Navamsa sign, and traditionally gives the first syllable for a child's name.
