Why Indore has its own Panchang
Rahu Kaal, Abhijit Muhurat, Choghadiya and Hora are all fractions of the local day, so they move with sunrise and sunset. Indore sits at 22.72°N, 75.86°E; a city a few hundred kilometres away can see these windows shift by several minutes.
Tithi and Nakshatra end at the same instant everywhere, but the local clock time differs with the time zone, and the Tithi at local sunrise decides which date a festival falls on.
Questions
What is a Panchang?
A Panchang is the Hindu almanac. For each day it gives the five limbs (panch anga): Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (the Moon's lunar mansion), Yoga (a Sun–Moon combination) and Karana (half a Tithi), along with sunrise-based timings used to choose a Muhurat.
What is Rahu Kaal?
Rahu Kaal is one-eighth of the daytime (sunrise to sunset), assigned to Rahu by weekday. Traditionally people avoid starting new ventures, signing agreements or beginning journeys in it. Because it depends on local sunrise and sunset, it differs from city to city and day to day.
Why does the Tithi change in the middle of the day?
A Tithi is the time the Moon takes to gain 12° on the Sun, so it can end at any hour. By convention the Tithi prevailing at sunrise names the day, which is why a festival can fall on a different civil date in different places.
Why might your timings differ from another Panchang?
Almanacs differ in ayanamsa, in whether months are counted Amanta (ending at new moon) or Purnimanta (ending at full moon), in how sunrise is defined, and in regional festival rules. We state the conventions on every page; small differences of a few minutes in Moon-based end times are normal between sources.
How is this Panchang calculated?
Sun and Moon positions come from NASA JPL's DE421 ephemeris (via the Skyfield library), converted to sidereal longitudes with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Sunrise and sunset are computed for your city's coordinates and shown in its local time zone.
