About Chhath Puja
Chhath Puja is a four-day observance in honour of the Sun (Surya) and Chhathi Maiya, the mother goddess who is believed to protect children and families. Its main day falls on Kartika Shukla Shashthi, the sixth day of the bright half of Kartika, a few days after Diwali. Devotees offer water and seasonal produce to the setting Sun in the evening and to the rising Sun the next morning, usually while standing in a river, pond or other water body.
