About Navratri
Sharad Navratri is the nine-night festival of the goddess Durga, celebrated in the autumn month of Ashvin from Shukla Pratipada to Navami, the first to the ninth day of the bright fortnight. Each day is dedicated to one of her nine forms (Navadurga), and the festival leads into Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on the tenth day. It begins with the installation of the sacred pot (Ghatasthapana), and is marked by fasting, daily worship, music and dance across India.
