How the dates are chosen
- Nakshatra: the fixed, movable, gentle and short nakshatras (Rohini, the three Uttaras, Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Revati, Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta).
- Tithi: Shukla Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Trayodashi, Purnima; Krishna Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Trayodashi. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
- Lagna: not Mesha, Vrishchika or Meena; no planet in the 10th house and the Moon not in the 1st, 6th or 8th. Daytime only.
A muhurat window is the stretch of the day when all of these hold, from sunrise to the next sunrise. The rules follow the classical muhurta texts as Drik Panchang applies them; ask a Pandit to fix the lagna for your ceremony.

Frequently asked questions
Are these timings the same everywhere?
No. Tithi, nakshatra and sunrise are calculated for Toronto, so dates and times shift between cities, and abroad a muhurat can fall on a different day than in India.
Should I also check my own chart?
Yes for an important event. Tarabalam (from your birth nakshatra) and Chandrabalam (from your Moon sign) show which of these windows also suit you; for a wedding, families also match the couple's Kundlis and fix the lagna with a Pandit.
