How the dates are chosen
- Only while the Sun is in Makara to Mithuna (Uttarayana), outside Chaturmas, and not while Venus or Jupiter is combust. Not on Tuesday or Saturday.
- Nakshatra: the fixed, movable, gentle and short nakshatras. Tithi: Shukla Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi; Krishna Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami.
- Daytime only, in its first two thirds; Sun, Mars and Saturn not in the 1st, 5th or 8th house, Jupiter not in the 6th or 8th, Venus and the Moon not in the 6th, 8th or 12th.
A muhurat window is the stretch of the day when all of these hold, from sunrise to the next sunrise. The rules follow the classical muhurta texts as Drik Panchang applies them; ask a Pandit to fix the lagna for your ceremony.
