About Dhanteras

Dhanteras (Dhanatrayodashi) falls on Kartika Krishna Trayodashi, the thirteenth day of the waning moon, two days before Diwali. It opens the five-day Diwali festival. Families worship Dhanvantari (the divine physician), Lakshmi (goddess of prosperity) and Kubera (keeper of wealth), and light a lamp for Yama (god of death and dharma) at the entrance.
